Mama mia, gluten-free pizza.

When you or someone in your family has a food allergy, certain international cuisines are usually off the menu when dining out. So it's good to see that some restaurants are becoming aware of these issues, and making an effort to cater for people with food allergies and intolerances.
I say 'making an effort' as Prezzo have recently launched adding gluten-free pizza bases on their menu's, spanning across all their 173 restaurants up and down the UK.
Diagnosed with coeliac disease myself, I tend to steer clear of Italian and Chinese restaurants for obvious reasons. So when I heard Prezzo's news, it opened up a whole new world of possibilities when scanning the selection of eateries...until you read the small print. Unfortunately, their gluten-free pizza's are cooked in the same ovens and made in the same area as their regular pizza's, therefore cross-contamination is almost certainly high.
Therefore Prezzo can't guarantee their pizza's are 100% gluten-free currently, but at least it's a step in the right direction. I'm sure it's only a matter of time until we can all venture and enjoy a slice of the action. Although for now, until they can guarantee their pizza's are safe for people allergic to wheat and coeliac's, sadly it'll still be off my menu.comments powered by Disqus
