The start of our adventures...
Posted: 14 Jun 2013
Wow! What a weekend! Allergy Adventures officially started at the Allergy + Free From Show in London, and what a start it was...
From the minute the doors opened on the Friday, until the last people left on Sunday, there was a whirlwind of activity around not only our stand but experts giving advice, tips being shared in cooking workshops and people sampling the delights on passionate food producers stands.
Two of my personal highlights from the show were, Knead Bakery; amazing bread for multiple food allergy sufferers, which are also free from cane sugar - founded by Sim Smith who was diagnosed with allergies as a child. Then there was the whiff coming from Venice Bakery UK. As soon as their oven doors opened, everyone wanted a slice of the action, diving into their egg, dairy, soya, nut and gluten-free pizza bases topped with...drum roll...MozzaRisella; dairy-free, egg-free, soya-free rice cheese - kids this one truly rocks.
22,000 people visited the show this year and at times, it felt like 22,000 children were on our stand! Children proudly showed me their 'paper plate mates' made during our all-day fun craft activity and enthusiastically listened to my stories about Didge, Minoo and Boffle going on all sorts of magical adventures inside their lunchboxes, meeting fun food characters like the beetroot monkey or the onion ringmaster! Parents, meanwhile, chatted to other parents, finding support and comfort from others in similar positions.
We had such a great day, warmly welcomed into the 'allergy and free from scene' and I'm still buzzing from what the future has to offer. Who would have thought a story I had written for my niece about an egg-free adventure would have turned into a series of children's allergy books, a website and this?!
A huge thank you to everyone who came and visited our stand.comments powered by Disqus
Already looking forward to the next adventure...
