Allergy friendly recipes for children's lunchboxes
Posted: 10 Oct 2013
At this point in October, the kids are firmly in school mode and I'm guessing that the daily grind of having to pack a healthy, allergen-free lunchbox is beginning to get to you? Well, I may be able to help…
In August, the Lunchbox Dr and I put our heads together and launched our first edition of allergy friendly recipes for lunchboxes, free from the top 14 allergens. You can find out how the collaboration started via a mum who put two and two together in a previous post here.
The Lunchbox Dr packed each lunchbox with nutritious food, while I made sure they were loaded with creative ideas for children to enjoy. Each day revolved around an adventure with themed food, fun craft activities and notes to cut out and pop into your child's lunchbox.
At the time, we asked for your ideas and suggestions to see how we could improve things, and a big thank you for all the comments and great ideas that you sent to us.
So while you've been busy with 'back to school', we've been busy adjusting, tweaking and adding new ideas to our lunchbox menu plan.
The new and improved allergy aware lunchbox menu plan
1. For readers who asked for substitutes for allergens that feature in our recipes, but are outside of the top 14, we've provided alternative suggestions where applicable.
2. We've included a 'tips' section to highlight how long food can be stored for in the fridge/freezer. Always handy to know for stocking up in advance.
3. We've included a preparation time for each dish. (To help you work out whether you can squeeze in some food prep between another washing load and the school run!)
4. We've highlighted the recipes that your child can help you prepare. Simple, easy and fun. They'll love getting involved.
You can download the new and FREE allergy friendly lunchbox menu plan here.
And we'd love to know what you think of the improvements. You can leave a comment below or you can send an email. And if you have photos of your child's lunchbox adventure, please send them in too!
