Heading to the Allergy and Free From Show? Join the Allergy Adventures' Fact Find Hunt!
Posted: 29 May 2015
Psst! In a hurry? Cut straight to playing the short video above and see my new children's activity for the Allergy & Free From Show sponsored by Udi's Gluten Free. Talking of sponsors, big love and thank you to mine; Get Fruity, Free From Market, Medicalert and BFree for sponsoring the Allergy Adventures' Fact Find Hunt!
It's the end of May which means one thing... July is nearly here. At least in my head. Because July is when the Allergy & Free From Show hits Olympia (July 3-5th) and it also means 'ShowTime' for Allergy Adventures. The preparations are already underway.
But this year, it's going to be a little different.
Although the story time and paper plate mates have been a huge hit at the show for the past two years, they've taken a back seat this time around. Not because another year of doing the beetroot monkey dance would finish me off, but because I can't help myself, LOVE coming up with new ideas to add to the mix.
I'll still be having creative crafts and I've scheduled in some fun on the stand at 11am, 1pm and 3pm every day. But I have a question for you: are you and your children still keen to hear the stories in these slots mixed with the odd bit of tomfoolery? Or is the beetroot monkey dance wearing thin? I'd love to hear what you think in the comments section below.
Introducing the Allergy Adventures' Fact Find Hunt
This year I'm proud to present the 'Allergy Adventures' Fact Find Hunt' *trumpet fanfare*. This cool activity will send you and your children on a hunt around the Allergy & Free From Show to find four educational (fun) posters about food allergies. Your child will collect the clues from the posters, write them on a map picked up from Allergy Adventures stand, and when they have found all the answers, they can head back to Allergy Adventures'. Why? Because all the maps will then be entered into a prize draw to win a box of allergy friendly crafts from Brian Clegg. Whoop, whoop!
The Fact Find Hunt serves three purposes:
• It gives your children a focus for the day, ensuring they don't get bored and drive you potty
• The educational facts give you a taster of the school workshop I've been busy developing over this last year
• It introduces a 'fun' element to food allergies, helping kids to realise that it's not about missing out, it's about finding something new
And a shout out and thank you again to Get Fruity, Free From Market, Medicalert and BFree who have sponsored my latest venture. I can't wait to get this activity rolling and hope that you and your children will love it too. Watch this video to find out more.
More reasons to visit the Allergy & Free From Show, 2015
The Allergy Show is a really valuable opportunity to meet the producers of the foods that make your life easier. You can ask questions, make suggestions and try the free stuff that's on offer (always a bonus, but please maintain the same precautions as you would normally around food - asking questions, etc). And a really exciting part of the show is wandering around and seeing the new brands that have sprung up since the last show. It's your chance to see new products as they come to market and decide whether they could become one of your 'store cupboard essentials'.
In addition to all the food, there's the Sainsbury's kitchen where you can watch live cooking displays and pick up tips and tricks from expert free from bakers and chefs. It's also a chance to meet up with other people in the free from community, which will - hopefully - bring some comfort as you realise there's a fair few of us that can share experiences and offer support.
